Thomas & Deborah - Home safe zoom zoom!

Monday August 15

Well, our sojourn has come to an end. With driving hard, yet sleeping when needed, we arrived in Fresno late Monday night. It was quick trip home, but nevertheless enjoyable. "Oh look, that's where we ate breakfast 2 1/2 weeks ago!" Zoom. "That's where we changed the trailer tire!" Zoom. "This is where we slept on the way out!" Zoom zoom and before we knew it we were taking the Chestnut exit of Highway 99.

Even though we didn't really settle in, the Holiday Rambler Scepter was a beautiful coach that had a soft quiet ride. The floor plan was different than most, with the fridge right behind the driver and a little hallway along the side of the restroom to get to the rear bedroom. Two full-length windows were there that gave the center of the coach an airy, open feeling. Another option we appreciated was the Aqua Hot. If you're looking into purchasing a new or used motorhome, we'd sure try to get that along with the other amenities we mentioned earlier on the Monaco Executive.

Anyway, aside from having a couple of tires failing on the trailer, the trip was smooth and carefree, all 20 days. (On a side note, Thomas and others have noticed a problem with trailer tires: they age quickly, come apart, or go flat easily. This can be resolved by putting light truck tires on your trailer instead of tires designated "trailer use only". This works for 18-wheelers and it has solved all our tire problems.)

Our dog and cat were sure glad to see us; it's good to be home. It's been a pleasure logging our trip, and we hope you benefited from traveling with us. The folks at Paul Evert's RV are great people; we love working with them. See you out on the road or in the camping spot.

Take care and God bless,

Thomas and Deborah

Thomas & Deborah - Luxury RV Features & Monaco International RV Club fun!

Monday August 1

After a comfortable and safe drive, we pulled in to the Monaco Pre-rally Sunday evening. Two items to note regarding the home we’ve enjoyed for five nights: the Aladdin system that I mentioned earlier, in addition to all the cool information it brings you, also accesses any cameras the coach is equipped with. “Ok,” you say, “that’s cool.” But wait, there’s more! Typically, a small LCD screen is also mounted near the bed with an Aladdin controller. This means, that while lying in bed, one can navigate through all the cameras, checking the back and each side like a built in security system! And finally, typically the driver’s seat is a big fluffy recliner that can be swiveled to become part of the livingroom furniture. Nice, but such seats do not necessarily make for the best driving position. Of the many Monacos I’ve driven, the driver’s seat in this one is by far the best. It’s the Hi-Tech Kustom Fit, and it adjusts every way possible, including lumbar, and the lower seating cushion actually retracts to morph from a fluffy piece of furniture into a more typical vehicle seat. Very cool.

After doing some final shopping Sunday (always fun to pull a 44' Executive and trailer into a parking lot), we were ready for the Customer Appreciation Banquet held Monday evening. The place mats were pages of the U.S. Road Atlas, and the center pieces were all-American as was the dinner. Deborah checked everyone in, about 85 people, and Thomas served the tri-tip expertly prepared by Jorge, one of the sales staff. We LOVED the Monaco crowd; what a neat bunch of people.

A constant stream of coaches continued to arrive, and soon the Expo center was transfomed from a fairgrounds into a little city of motorhomes. The organizers expected nearly 200 Monacos. Electrical is run for plug-ins, entertainment planned, and lots of socializing. It's really something to see.

Off on the bike Tuesday morning with a fond farewell to the Monaco Owners and our good friends at Paul Evert's RV Country.

Thomas & Deborah - On the Road!

Thursday July 28

Hi again. We're Thomas and Deborah and we're on our way to Manitowoc, Wisconsin in a 2006 Monaco Executive. Please see our first blog for an introduction. More about us later, but we've completed our first full day on the road. The 550 miles today added to the 240 we covered Wednesday evening puts us in Green River, Utah. It's been a leisurely pace. Beautiful scenery, beautiful drive.

We've delivered coaches about 10 times for Curt and Paul Evert's RV Country and part of the fun is learning each coach and its accouterments. I've grown to appreciate many, like the interactive cruise control, or Smartcruise. It matches the speed of the vehicle in front of you. I wouldn't leave it on all the time because it can get confused, but on a two-lane road, when we couldn't pass for many miles, it perfectly matched the pace of the truck in front of us and I sat back and enjoyed the ride. It would be awesome if you were traveling with someone; you wouldn't have to keep adjusting your cruise to match theirs.

Another of my favorites is the HWH Computerized Leveling system. Press a button and the air suspension does the rest in seconds--flawlessly.

But my all time, can't-live-without option is the Aladdin. It's just what a former truck driver techno-geek loves. This system gathers information from everywhere and delivers it to the video screen by the steering wheel: temperatures, transmission performance, power output, cruise control set points, speed, tank levels, even compass heading. It has answers to a thousand questions.
Regardless of what we're driving, however, a road trip is a wondrous way to suspend time. We've been gone a little over 24 hours and already feel we've been on vacation for weeks. Travel; it makes life last longer, in a good way.

With so many great attributes and highlights to hit, you may be here reading for awhile, so make sure you're comfy!

The Raptor is the Number 1 selling fifth-wheel toy hauler sport utility vehicle on the market today. Every Raptor floorplan is the result of input and suggestions from experienced toy hauler owners and others who enjoy active, adventurous life styles. The standard options are just too many to list! but you can choose to add Swivel Rocker, Recliner Chairs, Double Electric Beds w/ Bottom Couch Combo, a Rear Screen Enclosure, a Free Standing Dinette with Four Chairs (Available in Select Models), an Onan Generator, and even Dual Pane Thermal Windows.

The greatest addition to the Raptor is the optional rear patio system! It makes a great spot for a couple of patio chairs and a bistro table to watch the sunset, or sunrise. Use it as an area for the kids to eat lunch and feel like they're on their own little picnic, or turn it into the ultimate man cave. The possibilities are endless!

RV Lifestyle Report: Senior Citizens Take To The Open Road In Search of Lifes Next Adventure

If you're a senior citizen looking for your next adventure, then the RV Lifestyle may be just the ticket for you! There's no better way to fulfill your need for exploration while maintaining all the comforts of home. With such a vast array of prices, styles, and sizes available, figuring out a budget, and which amenities are needs vs. wants is the first step to take. There are Class A, B, and C motorized recreational vehicles, as well as towables, such as fifth wheels, travel trailers, and pop-up campers. If a brand new RV is out of your price range, not to worry! Most dealerships offer many different affordable pre-owned options to chose from.

Remember, that although in most places no special license is required for operating an RV, there are some places with special requirements, so be sure that all potential drivers are up to the task. There are many different RV Driving Schools located across the country, so no matter where you are, you should be able to find one that is convenient for you.

Just in case you're wondering what exactly the difference is between Class A, Class B, and Class C RV's, we've got the breakdown for you right here. Take a look at these very basic descriptions, and get some help determining which RV is best for you and your next adventure in life:

Class A motor homes are typically 30 to 45 feet in length and can be either gas or diesel powered. These conventional motorhomes are entirely constructed on a specially designed motor vehicle chassis. Home-like amenities abound in motorhomes, but generally they all have kitchens, bathrooms, entertainment centers and centrally controlled heating and air conditioning. Spacious and well-equipped, even the basic models are well-appointed and roomy. For anyone looking for the ultimate in travel luxury and elegance, Type A motorhomes include high-end luxury models with condo-like surroundings and all the bells and whistles of a custom home. They offer the most storage capacity and often include basement storage areas. Slideouts in some models, which move the RV wall outward up to three feet at the touch of a button, create larger living areas. Many models include multiple slideouts. Any experienced driver can take the wheel. A small vehicle can be towed behind, for short side trips once the motorhome is parked. Or you might prefer to tow a trailer to carry your boat or golf cart. Depending on the floor plan, they can sleep up to eight people and can cost anywhere from $50,000 to $500,000+.

Class B motor homes, also referred to as conversion vans, are built using an automotive manufactured van or panel-truck shells and are the smallest of the motor homes, usually 16 to 22 feet. They also include home-like conveniences such as a bathroom, sleeping, dining and kitchen facilities, and storage. Though the living space is more crowded, Class B motor homes are easier to handle and more versatile and economical than Class A ones. Full stand-up room is achieved by the raised roof and sometimes by the use of dropped floors, for extra head room inside. Typically, they cost $40,000 to $100,000, depending on the features.
Class C motor homes are smaller versions of Class A motor homes, stretching from 21 to 35 feet in length. Type C motorhomes are built on an automotive van frame with a wider body section attached to the original cab section. Amenities are similar to those in the conventional motorhomes. Most recognizable about the Type C motorhome is space over the cab that is often an optional sleeping area. Ample living space includes sleeping, kitchen, dining and bathroom facilities, as well as entertainment systems and storage. Slideouts in some models, which move the RV wall outward up to three feet at the touch of a button create larger living areas. They can cost $50,000 to $150,000.

Sometimes this information can be overwhelming! Another suggestion is to visit your local dealer and check out the different makes and models for yourself. Most sales people can whittle down the many options to just what you want and need after a short conversation!

RV Buddies review the Monaco Vesta

We here at Paul Evert's RV Country were not the only ones excited to see the new Monaco Vesta arrive, it turns out the folks at RV Buddies sure were too!  A full review, photos, and video of the Monaco RV Vesta 32 PBS are now live on RV Buddies website.

"After reading this review and watching this video you will see why we named it one of the best RVs of the year," said Mark Summers, Executive Producer of the show.

The Monaco RV Vesta is the result of extensive research and development. It was developed with wind tunnel testing and features many aerodynamic design features, including flush bus-style windows to assist in reducing drag.

Monaco Coach describes this state of the art RV as being designed for today's RV Lifestyle.  It is perfect for everything from football tailgate parties to sightseeing across America.  The cockpit makes it easier to see, the nimble chassis makes it easier to navigate and park, and the engine is easier on fuel AND the environment, compared to traditional motorhomes.

RV Buddies is an RV adventure-lifestyle show featuring reviews of RVs, accessories and gear, featuring hosts Mark Summers, Elise Baughman and Robert Wittenberg.  The program is distributed as an Internet television production on its own website, on Apple iTunes and through other distribution channels including iPad and phone friendly versions for iPhone, Blackberry and Android.

The Coachmen Apex Travel Trailer - Worth it's (ultra-lite) weight in gold!

Here at Paul Evert's RV Country, we take our product selection very seriously. After our sales department spent the day learning all the ins and outs and cool things about the Coachmen Apex Travel Trailer, we were able to sit down with our rep, Mark Kealoha for a crash course of our own.

We asked Mark to tell us what the 3 greatest things about the Apex are and here's what we learned.

    1) A TRUE "Ultra-lite" travel trailer.
With a dry weight starting at only 2,400 lbs, the Apex is a TRUE ultra-lite. There are 9 floorplans ranging from 17' - 26', none weighing more than 4,400 lbs and 5 of those come with a slideout! That makes them light enough to be towed by most vans, crossovers, and SUV's!

    2) Light weight but still lots of variety.
The Apex has 6 hardside floorplans, 3 hybrid/expandable floorplans, AND there will be a lightweight toy hauler floorplan available as soon as February 2011!

    3) Small size, big features!
Where most manufacturers make you pay extra, Apex wanted to offer as much as they could standard with the trailer. When comparing models, you'll find air conditioning, a stereo, privacy windows, and 2-tone cabinetry.

You know we couldn't stop at just three things, right?!
    • Did you know the Apex is one of just a few manufacturers to be TRA certified green?
    • Did you know that Apex uses the TC1 in-wall slideout system? This means NO CABLES!
    • Did you know that Apex has an expandable floorplan with a flat floor? Use the 2.5' raised inflatable mattress as a bedroom suite or deflate the mattress and it turns into a patio room!

What are you looking for in a new RV? Poll results show....

You have spoken and the RV makers have heard you! According to a recent RV consumer poll there are some sought after features you're looking for in a new RV and Paul Evert's RV just happens to have them in stock!

#1 - Larger kitchen counter tops!
While the sink covers are helpful, RV consumers are looking for a little something more.

The Keystone Montana High Country isn't only state of the art when it comes to weight, look at all that counter space pictured above!
The Keystone Outback Sydney Edition 325FRE (Pictured above) again shows that not all counter tops are created equal.
Monaco Coach makes the most of the counter space in their luxury motorhomes by including a pull out counter, solid sink covers, and stove covers.

    #2 - Larger showers!
With all of the sprawling floorplans offered, some manufacturers are sure to not forget the spacious bathroom.

Thor Motorcoach is ensuring your comfort by installing a 24" x 40" shower in the Challenger 32VS.

While still trying to minimize space, the new A.C.E. by Thor Motorcoach is installing curved shower curtain rods to allow for extra shoulder room.

Various floorplans in Montana by Keystone RV can include a spacious 36" garden tub/shower with an adjustable height shower head, molded shelves, and a wash cloth holder.

    #3 - Residential sized beds!
This one makes a lot of sense, replacing a mattress or buying linens is much easier without a specialty sized bed.  Paul Evert's RV Country carries several brands and models that now offer this feature.

Both Monaco RV and Tiffin Motorhomes offer residential sized Select Comfort beds.

Every Keystone Montana offers full sized residential King Beds

What features would you like to have in your next RV?
